COLOURFUL PATCHWORK

They are never really out of fashion, reinvented over and over again:

THE PATCHWORK.

Patchwork literary means "pieced work". E-repeats.com uses the term patchwork to describe a pattern repeat formed by several patches of several designs. The patches can be different in form or size, have straight or faint lines, be similar or contrasting in colour or design.

Always look for balance in your patchwork repeat. Give character to your design with the use of well chosen patterns. The combination of large and small scale patterns and even stripes makes it all exciting. However different each patch may be, there needs to be a connection. This may be the use of colour, the drawing style or subject.
WHAT HAVE WE SEEN?
Contemporary patchwork designs come  in various styles: from cheerful kids designs to kelim & ikat mixtures and, of course, the combination of retro patterns.

Various styles means various applications. We’ve seen rugs, handbags, paper napkins, scarves, clothing etc. The more handcrafted it looks , the better.  A ‘big stitch’ sewing the patches together dramatizes the handmade look. It’s all about originality, craftsmanship and upcycling.
